A compression spring is an open-coil helical spring that provides resistance to a compressive force applied axially. Compression springs can be coiled at a constant diameters, conical (tapered), concave (barrel), convex (hourglass), or combinations of these. Compression springs can be used to resist force or store energy, depending upon the application.
